When used properly, propane is a very safe fuel. It can become dangerous when people are unaware of the precautions they need to take around propane fuel.
BASIC PRECAUTIONS:
- familiarize yourself with the propane supply shut off and the shut off for each propane appliance
- install a carbon monoxide detector – CO is a byproduct of burning gas
- install a propane detector
- mark in-ground tanks w/ flags, poles, or an object tall enough to be seen by trucks and snow plows

IF YOU SMELL, HEAR OR SEE GAS :
- shut off the gas
- leave the area
- call 911 from a cellphone once you’re off the premises
- do not return to the area until professionals determine it’s safe
- report the leak to Kerivan-Lane so we can check your system to resolve the issue
